Enabling a Resilient and Sustainable ASEAN Energy Future through Digitalisation
16 October 2025
Highlights
Digitalisation is a key enabler for ASEAN’s energy transition, driving decarbonisation, energy efficiency, and resilience while addressing the rising energy demand across the region.
Digitalisation supports efficiency, safety, cost savings, and decarbonisation not only in electricity but also in oil and gas, heating/cooling, transport, and industrial energy systems.
ASEAN Member States are gradually adopting digital technologies, such as Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence, to modernise energy systems and integrate renewable energy sources, especially solar and wind.
Challenges to digital transformation in the energy sector include regulatory fragmentation, disparities in digital infrastructure development, financial barriers, a lack of technical capacity, and cybersecurity risks.
To accelerate digital transformation in the energy sector, the region should focus on harmonising standards, improving rural connectivity, promoting innovative financing models, enhancing skills, and setting cybersecurity frameworks.
